meet the maker
Hi, my name is Jolene and I am the founder of Field & Folk. My inspiration for starting Field & Folk began in lockdown. When we were sat at home bored, unable to get out and connect with friends, family and loved ones. My partner and I borrowed a giant shuffleboard from a friend at work which we played many a night on our kitchen table, beer in hand. We loved how simple and enjoyable it was, good old wholesome fun at the time when there was little opportunity to have any.
When things opened up again, we had friends over to play and they loved it too. I was so nice to reconnect again and simply play. It reminded me of being a child and just enjoying the simple pleasures that games bring. A year on and a proposal later I was planning my own wedding and was researching games to hire and struggled to find any tradition games that matched the rustic aesthetic that we were envisaging. Most local options were made with plastic or were arcade style games or inflatables. We were wanting something more beautiful & meaningful. That’s when I had a had a light bulb moment and thus, Field & Folk was born.
I teamed up with a carpenter friend who gave me a tonne of starting advice and kindly the use of his workshop to develop my game ideas. In my free time I’ve been working on the makes ever since growing my collection of games and wood-working skills along the way. It’s been a fun, learning experience for sure, not without trials and errors but it’s been an amazing learning journey. Fast forward to the present day and I’m proud to finally share these games with you and my vision for an elegant lawn games solution in Ireland.
